Planned Parenthood: Healthcare Refuge or Butcher Shop?

If you listen to nightly newscasts or the rhetoric of some elected officials, you may be inclined to believe that the business of Planned Parenthood (PP) is not only admirable, but also critical to the healthcare of women. The organization has successfully marketed itself as an informative and medical resource for pregnant women, while stealthily practicing the opposite. In fact, there is no other place where the rights of a mother and her unborn child are more at risk than in a PP clinic.

Once upon a time…

Recent scandals involving PP likely do not come as a surprise to anyone familiar with the roots and history of the organization. PP was founded in 1916 by Margaret Sanger as one of the first “birth control” clinics in the United States. The mission has not changed since. PP’s number one priority, 100 years later, is still to prevent birth, no matter the cost.

It was Sanger’s open advocacy of eugenics that became the foundation for PP from the start. The clinic was created as a means to carry out her belief that certain undesirable qualities and traits were a hindrance to the human race. The ideology is aimed at “purifying” the human race in order to eliminate certain weaknesses, diseases, and disabilities prone to certain groups. Sanger has been quoted as saying “birth control is nothing more or less than weeding out the unfit.” She also claimed it was a great evil to bring children into the world. “I think the greatest sin is to bring children into the world,” Sanger said in a 1957 interview with Mike Wallace. Her disdain was racially charged as well, specifically toward African-Americans. A 1939 letter authored by Sanger expressed her desire to control the African-American population through “The Negro Project.” “We don’t want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” she wrote to her birth control allies. In her autobiography, she even recalls speaking before white supremacy groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan. While praised as a hero by PP’s supporters, her rhetoric is more similar to that of the German Nazi Party of the 1930’s and 40’s than of a healthcare service.

PP has executed this vision for the past century. It was formed with devious intent from the get go. How then can we expect it to do anything other than violate human rights and dignity, when that is exactly what it was designed to do?

Harvesting fetal parts

For the past couple of years, PP has endured increased public scrutiny for its involvement in selling body parts from aborted babies. A series of undercover videos was released to the public, revealing the organization knowingly and willingly attempted to profit from the sale of fetal parts and organs. Essentially, this is the trafficking of infants, which is in direct violation of federal law.

Buying or selling body parts is a federal felony. (42 U.S. Code 274e)

The commercial trafficking of body parts from an aborted baby is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $500,000. (42 U.S. Code 289g-2)

The following link features an undercover video with PP Senior Director of Medical Services Deborah Nucatola in 2014, admitting she oversees the sale of body parts of aborted infants up to 24 weeks. Abortions in this stage of pregnancy are also a federal crime.

Partial-birth abortion is a federal felony punishable by up to 2 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000. (18 U.S. Code 1531)

A fetus extracted intact and alive during an abortion is a born-alive infant under federal law and any further action taken to kill him or her is homicide. (1 U.S. Code 8)

We’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that we use those parts,” said Nucatola. “I’m not going to crush that part, I’m going to crush below, I’m going to crush above, and I’m going to see if I can keep it all intact.

It would be troubling enough even if this were an isolated incident. Unfortunately, this strategy has proven to be a part of PP’s standard protocol. There are many other videos that reveal PP’s leadership confessing to the same abhorrent practices. These exposed works don’t merely offset any “good” service provided by the organization, but should also be grounds to strip PP completely of federal dollars, if not have it completely shut down!

Contact your local representatives and tell them PP should be defunded ASAP!

Alternative healthcare clinics

We have long heard from PP supporters that it provides a lot of other valuable services for women, or that abortion is only a small part of its practices. However, statistics show that abortion is by far its largest source of revenue! PP receives about $500 million in tax dollars each year, of which abortion gets a higher percentage than any other service. PP claims abortions are only 3 percent of what they offer, yet when breaking down the actual numbers, one out of every eight women who walk into a PP clinic get an abortion. PP in fact, performs an abortion ever 97 seconds. It is the nation’s leading abortion seller, with more than 30 percent of total abortions occurring inside the walls of its clinics.

The other myth often perpetuated is that there are a lack of healthcare clinics to fill PP’s shoes. “Where will women go for prenatal care?” This question is often asked. The truth is there is no shortage of clinics and services that provide real healthcare to pregnant women. In fact, there are numerous clinics that provide the very services PP claims to provide, but without the blood money.
